The Department of Zoology began functioning in 1966 under the headship of Dr. Kamla Gupta. The Department of Zoology operates within the Faculty of Science and has a sanctioned strength of 250 seats. It offers Zoology as a core subject in the undergraduate Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) program. This program follows the modern university curriculum guidelines (NEP 2021 and now FYUP). Highly qualified professors lead the department and conduct undergraduate lectures, laboratory sessions, and regular seminars. Dedicated laboratory staff manage practical sessions and ensure experimental safety. The department is well equipped with laboratory instruments to perform experiments according to NEP and also has a rich library of subject and practical books. The department also hosts various activities and programs to promote wildlife conservation, such as Rhino Day and Tiger Day. The department also conducts awareness programs for infectious diseases, such as malaria prevention and HIV.
