History of the SEN Group

The college traces its origins to 1898, when Late Dr. Surendra Nath Sen had a promise to keep — a promise made to his dying mother to champion the cause of women’s empowerment through education.

Dr. Sen, the sole qualified doctor from Calcutta Medical College in Kanpur, personally campaigned for girls’ education despite the prevalent social barriers. He established an initial school in his courtyard, which expanded by 1914. A massive building began to come up on that field, which was formally opened by His Excellency Sir W. Sinclair Marris, Governor of U.P. & Oudh, on the 9th of March, 1925.

Post-independence, S.N. Sen Degree College was established in 1953 by Dr. Siddheswar Sen, and affiliated with Agra University in 1957. Postgraduate programmes began in 1985. By the late 1970s, vocational training emerged as an educational focus to provide career-oriented pathways for women.
